Philae is talking again. The picture from yesterday was actually 40m above the surface. Rosetta is taking pictures of the surface trying to identify where Philae ended up after bouncing twice.

So crazy to believe that this mission was launched 10 years ago and here it is working relatively well, besides the possibly non-firing harpoons, and taking pictures from the surface of a damn comet. Science is amazing.

I love this shit.
I was just talking to my girlfriend last night about how even though I'm a smart person with a working knowledge of astronomy, when I look up at the night sky it feels less like three dimensional space and more like a painting or a movie screen - it's just too vast to quickly conceptualize anything beyond the moon as being a physical place. But things like this - landing on a fucking comet - make it so real it gives me goosebumps.

Truly awesome.
Sad that the controversy over the guy's shirt was taking top billing on the Google News feed this morning... Probably not the best idea he ever had, but come on people, can we not turn absolutely everything little thing into a reason to complain? Ugh.
